CHEMLIST: Korean Existing Chemicals List

ECL is the Korean Existing Chemicals List established under the Toxic Chemicals Control Law (TCCL). The Existing Chemicals List, published by the Minister of Environment, is current through 1994 and contains approximately 30,000 substances. Newly manufactured or imported chemicals are subject to a toxicity examination by the Ministry of Environment.

When a substance is on the Existing Chemicals List, 'On ECL' is displayed in the Inventory Status (INV) field. The chemical name, as listed in ECL, appears in the Chemical Name (CN) field tagged as ECL. The ECL Serial Number appears in the Regulatory List Number (RLN) field.

Some substances include a TCCL Designation of Toxic Chemical and/or Specified Toxic Chemical in the INV field. Enter HELP TCCL at an arrow prompt (=>) in CHEMLIST for more information on TCCL Designations.

The Korean Ministry of Environment has communicated to CAS that only the chemical names in the ECL are official. Therefore, to provide more accurate access and retrieval of this information using CAS Registry Numbers, and for consistency with other national inventories, substance identification experts at CAS verified the CAS Registry Numbers associated with the chemical names, made any necessary corrections to the CAS Registry Numbers, and assigned new CAS Registry Numbers when appropriate. In CHEMLIST, corrections to the CAS Registry Numbers in the printed ECL have been implemented as follows:

The CHEMLIST record for the corrected CAS Registry Number (in the RN field) contains the ECL chemical name in the CN field, the ECL Serial Number in the RLN, and the CAS Registry Number from the ECL in the RLN field labeled 'CAS Reg. No. on ECL'

The CHEMLIST record for the CAS Registry Number in the printed ECL (in RN field) contains the corrected CAS Registry Number in the RLN field labeled 'For ECL see CAS Reg. No'. To see the ECL information, e.g., the ECL chemical name, the ECL Serial No., display the CAS Registry Number listed in the RLN field.
