Search Example -- Medical Research


I was at a conference recently, and heard about a paper concerning Alzheimer's Disease and butyrylcholinesterase. How can I find research articles on this topic?


To open an STN Easy account , click the blue "Open New Account" button and complete the form. Within 30 minutes, your STN Easy login ID and password will be sent to the e-mail address you specify.

Since the search is related to a chemical substance, begin by finding the CAS Registry Number® for the substance.

Click "CAS Number Search". (2) Enter butyrylcholinesterase in the search box. (3) Then click the Search button. (4)

Note the search cost.


STN Easy finds the REGISTRY record for the substance. To view the record, click directly on the chemical name. (5)

Note the display cost is in brackets [ ].


The CAS REGISTRY record, which includes the CAS Registry Number, automatically determines which categories contain additional information about the substance. These categories are links at the end of the record.

To locate medical science or biomedical information that is directly related to the substance of interest, click the "Life Sciences" link. (6)

The display cost is in brackets [ ].

 


More than 42,000 records are located. To narrow the search to only those research articles that discuss butyrylcholinesterase and "Alzheimer," click the "Refine Your Search" button. (7)


Type "Alzheimer" in the search box. (8) Since only recent research is desired, select "Publication Year" from the drop-down box and limit it to "1999" to "Current." (9)

Click "Search." (10) There is no additional charge to refine your STN Easy search!

 

 


A precise set of research information from several databases is located.

Note that, if desired, duplicate records from the multiple database search can be identified by clicking "Show Duplicates."

Review the answer titles, and click directly on a title of interest. (11)

 


The details of the requested article are displayed.
