The Advanced Search option prompts
you to choose the category of
databases you wish to search. Advanced Search also allows you to join
multiple terms from various data fields
with Boolean operators.
To use Advanced Search, click the
Advanced Search option on the Navigation Frame. Then follow these steps:
- Select a category: The
name of the default database category is displayed to the right of the blue
button.
To select a different database
category, click the blue button. A browser window opens and displays the list
of STNEasy database categories.
- Click a category name link to
select it.
- Or, click the icon to the left
of the category name to see the databases included in that category. If
you do not want to search a particular database, deselect the box corresponding
to that database. Click OK.
The window closes, and the name
of the category you chose is displayed next to the blue button.
Note: It is important
to do step 1 first. The databases you select determine the data fields displayed
in step 2.
- Enter your search terms:
- In the top
left box, select the field, e.g., Word(s), Patent Assignee, Chemical Name
- In the box to the right, enter
your search term. See the Searching
Guidelines for details. Click the Browse Index button to
the right of the row to see if your term is included in the index for the
database(s) you have chosen to search. See Browse
Index for details.
- (Optional)
Add additional terms to your search in the second row of boxes:
- Select a Boolean
Operator, i.e., AND, OR, NOT, NEAR
- Choose a field to be searched
- Enter your search term
- (Optional)
Click the Add a Search Term button below the search terms to join
additional terms to your search query
- Search: Click Search.
