Patent Lookup Overview |

The Patent Lookup option prompts you to choose the category of databases you wish to search. Only Patent Categories are included in this search option. Patent Lookup also allows you to join multiple terms from the available data fields with one of the Boolean operators AND or OR and to refine your search afterwards.
To use Patent Lookup Search, click Patent Lookup on the Navigation Frame. Then follow these steps:
1. Select a patent category: The name of the default patent database category is displayed to the right of the blue button.
The window closes, and the name of the category you chose is displayed next to the blue button.
Note: It is important to do step 1 first. The patent databases you select determine the data fields displayed in step 2
2. Enter your search terms:
Enter your search term in one of the entry boxes. See the Patent Searching with Patent Lookup for details. Click the Browse Index button to the right of the row to see if your term is included in the index for the database(s) you have chosen to search. See Browse Index for details.
Enter additional terms to your search in a second entry box (optional).
Select one of the Boolean operators AND or OR from the toggle box at the top of the page. Note that the selected Boolean operator applies to all the search terms you have entered on the Patent Lookup page.
Continue to enter additional terms (optional).
3. Click Search. The Searching in statement verifies the patent database category being searched.
A list of answers is displayed on the Answer page.
