The Browse Index feature (available
for Advanced and CAS Number Searches only) allows you to preview terms in the
indexes of
the database(s) you have chosen to search. Browse Index is free, and it is an
excellent way to preview your search before you pay for it:
- Find multiple spellings and word
endings
- Catch spelling or typing errors
(both yours and the database producers)
- Check that your term is included
in the database you have chosen
To use Browse Index:
- Enter a term to be searched. If
you enter multiple words, only the first word is browsed.
- Click the corresponding Browse
Index button to view index terms. A scrollable list of terms is displayed
to the right of your search term. If you have "show database posting
counts" turned on in your Preferences,
the total number of hits for each term in your chosen database category is
also displayed.
- Select one or more terms from
the index. The technique for selecting continuous and discontinuous terms
is platform dependent. For example, hold down the <Shift> key to select
continuous terms. Hold down the <Control> key (<Command> key on
Macintosh) to select discontinuous terms.
- Enter additional data for your
search, if appropriate.
- Click the Search button
to execute your search. Or, click Reset to restart the Browse Index
feature.
