Role of the Account/Site Administrator
STN® agents will work with you, as the Account Administrator for your organization, to ensure the successful implementation and maintenance of IP Address Authorization (IPAA) for access to STN Easy and STN Easy for Intranets.
IPAA eliminates administration of multiple login IDs and passwords. Simply by clicking on the link to STN Easy or STN Easy for Intranets in your virtual library or on your corporate intranet or by opening a bookmark, users at your organization will be taken to the STN Easy or STN Easy for Intranets home page. Without typing in a login ID or password, they can click on the "Start Your Session" button and begin searching.
Your organization will receive one monthly invoice. If you have activated the charge back code feature, then the STN Easy and STN Easy for Intranets charges accrued by each individual at your organization will be subtotaled by charge-back code.
To implement IPAA with STN Easy or STN Easy for Intranets, you must:
1. Complete the form, "Request for IP Address Authorization on STN Easy/STN Easy for Intranets Site Administrator Status."
2. Receive and process the monthly invoice.
3. Identify the IP address(es) that will have access to STN Easy or STN Easy for Intranets.
Please note: IP Address Authorization is only available for IP addresses that are fixed to at least the B level (where a typical IP address is of the format: AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD).
4. Identify which STN account is to have access to STN Easy via IPAA.
STN Easy accounts opened through the STN Easy online account signup process cannot be set up for IPAA. For more information about opening an STN contract account, contact STN Customer Service.
Academic accounts must choose to access either the academic version of STN Easy or the standard version of STN Easy for each IP address that is set up for automatic authorization. One IP address cannot access both versions of STN Easy.
5. If the charge back code is activated, communicate what information your users should enter in the "charge-back code" box when they start using STN Easy.
What is entered in the "charge-back code" box should be whatever you want used to subtotal the invoice. For example, the data could be department names or numbers, accounting codes, project codes, or the user's name.
If you choose to use it, a hyperlink called "charge-back code help" is available. This link will take users from your IP address to your server for information about using the charge-back code. Your link is specific to your STN Easy account; other organizations cannot see or access it. To set up the charge-back code help link, contact STN Customer Service.
6. Ensure that all STN Easy and STN Easy for Intranets users are aware of the Terms & Conditions for use.
7. Set the standardized preferences that are used during STN Easy and STN Easy for Intranets sessions.
Note: Preferences for STN Easy for Intranets will become the default if these preferences are different than those previously established through a different IPAA account.
Only the Account/Site Administrator (and Back-Up) will be able to set the standardized
preferences. The steps are:
A. Go to the STN Easy home page.
B. Enter your STN loginid and password.
C. Press the "Start Your Session" button.
D. When the search page appears, click on the "Preferences" link on the navigation bar for STN Easy IPAA users.
E. A new Admin hyperlink, only visible to Account Administrators, will appear on the navigation bar next to the Preferences link. Click on the Admin hyperlink.
F. Click on the IP address for which you want to set preferences.
G. Set preferences.
H. Click "Apply".
In order to set the standardized preferences for STN Easy for Intranets, please use the Setup Assistant, found under the STN Easy for Intranets dropdown link on the Navigation frame.
Please note the following differences between standard STN Easy and STN Easy or STN Easy for Intranets accessed via IPAA.
1. Preferences are standardized. During a specific session, users will still be able to change the preferences to suit their individual tastes. Once their session is complete, the preferences will automatically revert to the selected standard.
2. Session transcripts will not be saved since individual users are not identifiable. This also protects the privacy of each individual. Each user will need to print his/her transcript before logging off or timing out. Once the user logs off or times out, the transcript will not be retrievable.
3. The session is automatically set up on a secure server when STN Easy or STN Easy for Intranets is accessed via IPAA.
